How We Found It: Beth hiked here many times while living in Boone.
Date and Distance Hiked: 5/6/12, 10 miles
Find the Trailhead: Park at the picnic area in Julian Price Park near MP 297 (that’s milepost) on the BRP (the Blue Ridge Parkway), not far out of Blowing Rock, NC. Cross over the bridge behind the bathroom facilities at the front of the park. Go past the large wooden stand with the map on it and take a right or continue straight; this is a loop, and it’s beautiful either way.
Map: No maps are offered, but this is a well-marked loop. If you want, snap a photo of the map at the trailhead.
Bathroom Situation: At the picnic area at the trailhead.
Fees (Where/How Much): Free.
Our Route: We did the five-mile Boone Fork Loop Trail twice, first going straight past the map and past the campground first and then going the opposite direction.
Hike Highlights:
Meadows, creek crossings, waterfalls, giant boulders, a ladder, gentle elevation changes – this trail is a visual treat. Speaking of creek crossings, waterproof shoes are a great investment for this trip. The water was high this weekend, and part of the trail travels down a creekbed, so good footwear kept us happy and dry-footed on this hike.
